About your Teacher 2013

About Your Teacher

I am so excited about the 2013/2014 school year!  This is my tenth, yes, tenth year teaching 1,2,3 grade in room 116, at Faith North Montessori.  I am an AMS trained and certified Montessori directress and have an M.Ed. in Cross-Cultural teaching.  My undergraduate degree is a B.S. in Accounting and Marketing from New York University.  During this teaching journey, I have been the Grade Level Chairperson for Elem 1, a mentor teacher, led the first school wide Homework Club, held the position of PTA/ Site Council Representative, and have been deemed by the district to be a Highly Qualified Teacher.  I enjoy teaching your children and take a “Cosmic” approach to their education.  My hobbies include, but are not limited to: reading, crafts such as knitting, crocheting, tennis, and bike riding.

Supply List

I encourage everyone to attend Back to School Night on July 29 at 6:00.  If your child is a first year student in my classroom, I would like to have a New Parent meeting at 5:00.  New parents have many additional questions that I need to address and usually would like a class tour along with individual attention.  Please bring twenty dollars, if possible and yourself.  Do not purchase any supplies, please!  We do not use backpacks nor anything with logos.  Your children will be carrying canvas tote bags that they will decorate in class as part of their first in class art project.  These bags will be brought to school with them each day.

Homework will be sent home in folders that will also be distributed in class.  Homework will go home on Mondays and be returned on or before the following Monday.  Third years will be doing Buckle Down practice, price to be determined from front office.

On July 29, I will discuss all FAQ’s.. I will hold a separate meeting for new incoming first graders so that their individual needs can be addressed.  Our room parent/ volunteer spot coordinator is Kathy Brasch and our e mail parent is Glenda Wheten.  Should you have other technical questions, perhaps they can provide assistance during the school year.  A big shout out to both wonderful parents for volunteering in our classroom.  It takes teamwork to be successful!

Parent Teacher Conferences are Coming Up!

News From Our Montessori Class

September 24, 2012

Dear Parents,

October 3,4, and 5 I will be having parent teacher conferences for room 116.  All of the above dates are early release, but the school officially holds conferences on Thursday and Friday.  I prefer to give you an additional choice of options for your conference.  For this first conference, your child will present some of their work to you for the first five minutes, if possible. Then your child may read in our class library or draw as we finish our meeting together for the next ten minutes.  In order to focus on questions that are important to you, please fill out the form below and return it to me with your child’s homework by Monday, September 24.

The date and time for your conference is attached to this letter.  Please let me know if this does not work for you.

I look forward to receiving this pink paper from you, in your child’s folder.  I would like to thank each and every one of you for blessing us with your wonderful children!  They truly are the best group we have ever had.

Sincerely,

Wendy Silver

Dear Parents,

We sent the attached book report letter home today with your children.  I have not reviewed it with them in detail, but wanted to make sure that everyone received it.  There is a letter, a form, and a list of suggestions of things to do (three pages). Please make sure that you have it and understand that it is being sent home now so that there will be plenty of time to read a book and do a nice job.  If your child is a first year, you may also read to them but I would like them to read on their own as well.  Kindly review with your children when you receive it and have a chance to prioritize their schedule.

My expectations for seconds and thirds are that they do not wait until the last minute and throw something together in haste.  They are responsible for their creativity as well as timeliness and content.  I have shoe boxes here if anyone would like them for this project.

Thank you for your partnership in your child’s educational experience.

Sincerely,

Ms. Silver and Mrs. Gina

Our Class is Great!

Dear Parents,

It is with pleasure that I inform you that the 2012/2013 school year is off to a great start in room 116.  Mrs. Gina and I have been working with and assessing the levels of your children from the minute school started on August first.  Our classroom is up and running smoothly!  Children have had many lessons, some of them "great" and will continue to make progress and learn daily.  They seem eager and enthusiastic about their lessons and everyone is on the right path- to success!

Thank you for assisting them with homework, spelling practice, volunteering for laundry, being class helpers, or  material making.  If you have not sent in the twenty dollar supply fee, kindly do so at your earliest convenience.  We have spent alot on materials and supplies, as I'm sure you are aware of.

Our class has been selling popcorn on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and there seems to be continued interest from both buyers and sellers.  We will be offering Pop Chips in the upcoming weeks.  Third years have been very involved in this project.

Please save August 29, from 5:30-7:30 for mandatory Parent Education Night.  Our Montessori team is preparing an interesting, information night for everyone.  More information will follow as the time draws closer.

Thank you for your participation in our school.  Scholastic book orders will go home with the children's homework on Monday.  If you have questions please contact Miriam Hernandez (miriammarguliz@gmail.com Your children are a "gift" to us!

Gratefully,

Ms. Silver and Mrs. Gina
